Safari and beach
Finish on the Indian Ocean.
Zanzibar is a short flight from Arusha or the Serengeti. After the dust and early starts of a safari, four or five nights on the beach is the classic way to end.

North
Nungwi and Kendwa
Swimming at all tides and the best sunsets on the island.
North-east
Matemwe
Quiet beaches opposite Mnemba Atoll, the best snorkelling on the island.
East
Paje and Jambiani
Wide white beaches, big tides and kite-surfing.
Town
Stone Town
The old trading town and UNESCO World Heritage Site, best with a local guide.
When to go
Zanzibar is warm all year. The driest months are June to October and December to February. The long rains fall in April and May, when some beach hotels close.
How many nights?
Four or five nights suits most people after a safari: time for one or two excursions and plenty of doing nothing. Honeymooners often stay longer.
Things to do
- Snorkelling at Mnemba Atoll
- A spice farm tour
- Stone Town with a guide
