Ruaha National Park

Tanzania’s wildest big park: lion prides, kudu and very few vehicles.

Size
about 20,000 km²
Getting there
fly, or about 3 h from Iringa
Stay
3–4 nights
A baobab silhouetted against the setting sun

Ruaha is one of the largest national parks in Africa and one of the least visited. Its baobab-dotted hills and the sand river of the Great Ruaha hold big lion prides, large numbers of elephant, and antelope you rarely see in the north, such as greater and lesser kudu and, in the miombo woodland, sable.

Most guests fly in. By road, we break the journey in Iringa.

When to go

June to October, when animals gather on the Great Ruaha River.
