Tarangire is the park of elephants and baobabs. In the dry season, herds of elephant come to the Tarangire River from far outside the park, and you can watch families of thirty or more crossing the sand between ancient baobab trees.

Two hours from Arusha, it is the natural first stop on the Northern Circuit, and quieter than the Serengeti. Lodges just outside the park can offer walking safaris and night drives.
